Moving from large scale murals to smaller framed paintings, my artwork is scaling down as I enter a new phase of creativity. I’m winding down a 25+ year career as a muralist/decorative painter that took me all over Southern California, creating murals and unique wall finishes for offices, churches, restaurants and private residences.
My job was to interpret and execute my client’s vision but now, looking inward and discovering my own vision is exciting as well as intimidating. I’ve been exploring different art mediums such as collage and alcohol ink, but my current favorite is watercolor. After years of using acrylic paint almost exclusively, watercolor feels so fresh and it definitely challenges me. Inspiration comes from places I’ve been, or what I see when I’m out for a walk, or talking with other artists and seeing all different types of art.
In this body of work, subject matter is usually secondary as I’m focused more on experimenting and learning about the different mediums I’m using. I’m not sure that the work is very cohesive, in fact maybe it’s a little multi-personality-ish?! Nevertheless, I’m having fun and enjoying being off the ladders and in my home art studio in Redlands.
