Good news! We have recently been notified by County Supervisor Neil Derry’s office that RAA will be receiving a grant in the amount of $10,000 to assist us in underwriting the salary of our new Executive Director, Randy Hill. Our Chairman of the Board, Larry Harvill, submitted a proposal last March summarizing our great volunteer history, the Visioning Project, possible remodeling of the gallery and our desire for an Executive Director whose main directive would be fundraising and marketing. Our major objective of supporting art education in the community, for which we are currently spending about $60,000 annually, was stressed. Thank you Larry.
Save the date! Sunday, October 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm – A reception will be held at the gallery to introduce our Executive Director Randy Hill to our members and to our community. Supervisor Neil Derry will also be stopping in to say hello and to see our space. Everyone is welcome!
Not such good news! Your Operating Committee has voted to close the gallery on Mondays beginning with the next take-in, September 23. Problems staffing the gallery with volunteers has been plaguing us all year. We simply do not have enough volunteers to work without asking some members to work 5, 6 or 7 shifts. Being closed on Mondays is a very common practice among galleries and museums and it will give our overworked volunteers some relief. Mondays are also very low sales days; Saturdays being the best. Our gallery sales hours are now – Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 to 5:00 plus Thursday and Friday evenings when we are able to provide coverage.
Art on State Street has been scheduled for Sunday, November 20 with a possible rain date of November 27. More information and sign-up sheets will be available in the gallery very soon.
