Spring is upon us and that means that exciting art events are happening in Redlands.
The Multi-Media Mini-Show is on the walls in the gallery now through March 21st. This delightful show contains well over 100 little treasures. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make this show a success: Volunteers who assembled the prospectus, set up the gallery for take-in, worked on Take-in Day, those who helped feed the crews, those who helped display accepted works, typed name tags, helped during the Purchase Award Patron day, open house set-up and clean up crews, members who brought goodies, artist reception helpers, setting up and taking down chairs, and those who volunteered to work the desk during the MMM show. This show could not have happened without your help. Again, thank you.
The theme for the March 22nd take-in is ‘Welcome to My Garden’, which will be on display during Redlands Flower Show. Our gallery will be a stop on the Flower Show tour March 20 and 21. Local florists will visit our gallery, choose a piece of artwork for inspiration and create arrangements to display.
Friday evening, April 26, our gallery is a stop on the annual fund raising event called ‘Vintage Redlands’. Folks purchase tickets in advance and visit participating shops for samples of wine, beer, cider and foods; all provided by vendors. This is a fun evening to be working at the gallery. ‘Art in the Park’, our Spring outdoor show, is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, May 25 and 26. This year our show will be held on the same dates and in a location adjacent to the first ‘Redlands Festival of Arts’. Sign-up sheet available now at the gallery.
There is one more important thing that I want to tell you about. On February 17, the Board of Directors of the Redlands Art Association approved implementation of a new educational program for children and teens. This new program offers parents an opportunity to enroll their kids in a comprehensive, progressive system taught in modules which can be taken in any order. Completion of all modules will give the student exposure to all major elements of art such as line, shape, color, form, space and texture. This new program will be implemented over the next several months and will offer parents a choice between this more formal plan and classes with an emphasis on a craft or a project. More details about this plan will be offered in future newsletters.
