A Message from the Chair of the Board of Directors

Hello supporting members and interested readers.  I am pleased to inform you that we are making some changes to this monthly message from the President, Gail Brownfield.  Going forward this by-line will be provided on a rotating basis by me, Larry Harvill as Chair of the Board of Directors, Randy Hill our Executive Director, and Gail.  We hope this will provide all of you with a wider amount of information about our RAA and its operations, achievements, and goals for the future.

For this first article I thought I would provide you with a brief overview of how we currently stand organizationally and operationally.  As a nonprofit California corporation (1964) holding a 501(c)3 status (1985) from the IRS, we are governed by a Board of Directors who are solely responsible for our financial and legal operations.  As such the Board provides final approval for all the financial aspects of our operation as well as approving all policies and major undertakings.  The Board currently has its maximum of 15 members and our Executive Director, Randy Hill, sits with the Board in an ex-officio, non-voting status.  The board has four committees: Nominating, Finance and Investment, Development and Marketing, and Operations.  The Operations Committee is chaired by our President, Gail Brownfield, and is responsible for all the many day-to-day operations.  Many of you hold responsible volunteer positions on this committee either as the chair of a sub-committee or as a participant of a sub-committee.  It is the Operations Committee that is the heart and soul of RAA and the RAA could not exist without all the great dedication and service all of you provide.

Let me close this brief overview by extending my deepest thanks and those of the Board for all of the wonderful service and support you provide to the RAA and I am looking forward to an exciting future together.

 Larry Harvill, Chair
