Gelli-Plates with Cindy Lantier
Learn to print without a press using a homemade gelatin plate or a commercially available “gelli plate.” Make abstract papers suitable for using as backgrounds or as collage fodder. You will learn two different techniques for intentional, more purposeful printing. Gel plates will be available for each student to play with and a commercial gelli plate to try out. Cindy will provide a variety of paints (both quality and color,) stencils, texture tools, and a small variety of paper.

My Way with Watercolor with Ed Sotello
Under the guidance and influence of Ed Sotello, you might push out of your safe zone and into a looser, painterly style. Sotello will demonstrate various watercolor techniques and give students the opportunity to try them and to experiment with incorporating collage into watercolor paintings; as well as the opportunity to explore doing a tape painting. Developing a good composition will also be emphasized and each participant will take home completed compositions. Beginning and advanced students will be able to expand their painting horizons with new experiences.

Springtime Copper Jewelry Series with Tia Shira
Working with Copper is fun, and sooo trendy These classes will introduce you to the joy of working with copper in different ways, while learning basic jewelry making skills.
MARCH 21 – HAMMERED COPPER JEWELRY – 9:30 AM – 1 PM.
Learn the joy of hammering! You will add texture to copper pieces (and antique or patina) to make a pair of earrings, bracelet, or pendant. Tools and materials provided. Members: $30; non-members: $75; $5 materials fee.
The Creative Spark with Unorthodox Materials w/ Snezana Saraswati Petrovic
Petrovic, a multi-media, installation artist, will demonstrate a wide variety of ways to use unorthodox sculpture materials. Newspapers and old books are starting points for a creation of newspaper yarn into 3D designs, small scale sculptures, assemblages and installations. Come learn, create and be inspired by this amazing lady.
Supplies/tools needed: newspapers and old books, x-acto knife 11 and/or scissors, Modge Podge, shadow box (any size), knitting or crochet needles, Scotch tape (one roll).
Optional supplies: acrylic paint, bristle brush, jar for water, palate and gold leaf

NOTE: ArtweekLA, reviewer Betty Ann Brown, claimed Petrovic’s newspaper yarn sculpture to be the most interesting in an immense group show at Pico House in LA during March of 2014. She said her yarn/rope sculptures, lit from the front, casting complex shadows on the wall behind, were elegant and wonderfully straddled sculpture, textile and poetry.
APRIL 24 – CHARMING METAL CLAY COPPER. 9 AM – 4:30 PM.
Learn how to work with precious metal clay in copper! You will make your own unique charms for a bracelet, earrings, or pendant. Students will learn to roll, shape and texture the clay. After firing, the creations become solid copper! Pieces will be fired and then polished and antiqued if desired. Tools and materials provided. Members $75; non-members: $115; $20 materials fee. Additional clay available for purchase.
MAY 15 – ENAMEL ON COPPER : COLORFUL BAUBLES – 9 AM -3 PM.
Learn to apply (glass) enamels to copper blanks as well as a variety of design techniques, to make colorful earrings, charms or pendants. This class is an introduction to the wonderful world of enameling. Tools and materials provided. Members: $60; non-members: $100. $10 materials fee.
