December 2010

The team of volunteers that we call our “hanging crew” works hard all year to display the hundreds of paintings, ceramics, glass and table top items after each “take-in”.  They work behind the scenes and few of us know who they are or how hard they really work.  I would like to personally thank them all for making our gallery look so good after the December  take-in.  If you had seen all of the new work that came in you would not have believed it could all be displayed in our little space.  Kudos to Margaret Gooding, Kristy Bergeson, Helen Louise Goodwyn, Ezra Hunt, David Taylor, Randall (Rand) and Pat Fox.

On many occasions this year, we were unable to open the gallery for sales because we had no one willing or available to work.  We have called upon the same dedicated volunteers for coverage to the point of wearing them out.  The Operating Committee has been trying to solve this problem for months now and in January, with the new gallery agreement you will be asked to sign, we will be implementing some changes that we hope will help.  As you know, you are required to work two shifts in the gallery during each show in which you display work.  This does not change, but for those who are not able to work the fee increases from $30 to $60 per show.  We will review those doing other types of work to assure that the value of contribution equates to working two shifts in the gallery.  And we will also be looking at changing our hours of operation.  Please be patient with us while we try to find solutions that are in the best interest of the organization.

Membership renewal is due January 1st.  No reminder will be sent to you but you can download a renewal form at our website or pick one up at the gallery.  Next take-in date is January 7th; the themes are Music or Abstract.  Our January program on the 25th is being presented by Jan Harvey, printmaker and former Historian of RAA.  Her presentation will be “Redlands, the way it was”  as seen through her work.  On January 29th a digital photography workshop will be conducted by Lisa Mozzini McDill.  And don’t forget our Show Within a Show of Photography in February and the Multi Media Mini Show in March.  It’s looking like a fun and busy Winter.

Wishing every one of you a happy holiday season.
