OIL PAINTING with CHICK CURTIS

Informative instruction that is individualized and inspirational by an outstanding artist and teacher.

SUNDAYS:   April 19 – May 17 :  10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

CHARMING METAL WITH CLAY with TIA SHIRA

Learn how to work with precious metal clay in copper! You will make your own unique charms for a bracelet, earrings, or pendant. Students will learn to roll, shape and texture the clay. After firing, the creations become solid copper! Pieces will be fired and then polished and antiqued if desired.  Tools and materials provided.

FRIDAY, April 24,    9 am – 4:30 pm.

Fee:   $115   Discounted Member fee: $75   $20 materials fee;  Additional clay available for purchase.

MAY 

WATERCOLORS with ED SOTELLO

Integrates creativity with instruction of basic skills, design and composition.  Beginning through advanced students will grow in this class.
Thursdays.;  May 7-28 ; June 4 & 11.   7-9 p.m     (last 5 classes for Spring)

ENAMEL ON COPPER : COLORFUL BAUBLES with TIA SHIRA

Learn to apply (glass) enamels to copper blanks as well as a variety of design techniques, to make colorful earrings, charms or pendants. This class is an introduction to the wonderful world of enameling.  Tools and materials provided.

FRIDAY, MAY 15;  9 AM – 3 PM.

Members: $60; non-members: $100.  $10 materials fee.

 

PAINT WHAT YOU SEE, AND LESS with MARTHA COWAN

Martha Cowan is a very accomplished painter.  She will conduct this workshop, with emphasis on painting still life.  Students will be instructed on how to design a painting, how to simplify a painting, and how to paint from large shapes with big brushes to small shapes with smaller brushes, as well as how to know when to wipe off a bad drawing.  Mixing colors with a brush will be covered.  “Choosing what to put in and what to leave out is what makes a painting a painting and not a photograph,” says Cowan.  Everyone should go home with at least one painting.  Some may have time for 2.  A supply list will be available when signing up for the workshop.

THE ART OF CRITIQUING, with DAVID FAIRRINGTON, renowned artist

Learning how to critique the work of others’ will help you trouble-shoot your own artwork. Learn to look with a more discerning eye.

JUNE 

CHARLIE CIALI   will teach another workshop in Encaustics at his studio in the desert.

Think “hot wax” when you think of encaustics. Wax is heated and colors added while it’s hot. Then colors are spread on a board, canvass, etc. to create a painting.  (See his work at the Redlands Festival of Arts the week-end of May 23 & 24.)

FRIDAY & SATURDAY,       June 19 & 20:     10 a.m.– 4 p.m.

Fee: $190:    includes both days;    Discounted Member fee: $150
